Crown H Cattle Company Awarded $25,000 Climate-Smart Agriculture Grant
Etna, California — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Crown H Cattle Company has been selected to receive a $25,000 grant through a USDA-funded climate-smart agriculture program administered by Wolfe’s Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment. The award will support the implementation of regenerative practices such as Prescribed Grazing and Carbon Amendment on the ranch.
The grant aims to empower beef producers like Crown H Cattle Company to adopt and scale practices that improve soil health, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and build long-term climate resilience in the beef supply chain. In addition to funding, producers receive technical support from Ryan Morgan, a Technical Assistance Provider (TAP) affiliated with Wolfe’s Neck Center. As part of the program, Crown H Cattle Company will work with Wolfe’s Neck Center to develop a Scope of Work and enter into a contract outlining project deliverables, verification requirements, and payment milestones. Participating producers will collect key agricultural and environmental data throughout the grant term, and soil sampling will be conducted using Point Blue’s Range-C Protocol.
“This award is an exciting opportunity to continue our commitment to land stewardship and sustainability,” said a spokesperson for Crown H Cattle Company. “We’re proud to be part of a program that prioritizes soil health, smart grazing strategies, and a climate-resilient future for agriculture.”
The initiative prioritizes funding for historically underserved producers, including women, beginning farmers, veterans, socially disadvantaged communities, LGBTQ+ farmers, and small-scale operations with less than $350,000 in annual farm income.
The program is part of a broader USDA effort to advance climate-smart farming practices nationwide, while collecting field-level data to inform future agricultural policy and conservation efforts.
Over the course of several days, the team at Crown H Cattle Company worked closely with Ryan Morgan to develop a comprehensive Prescribed Grazing plan tailored to their land, herd, and long-term goals. Over the span of 3 to 4 working sessions, they evaluated pasture conditions, herd movement patterns, and forage availability to design a rotational grazing strategy that improves soil health, optimizes grass utilization, and supports regenerative outcomes. This collaboration laid the foundation for a climate-smart approach that aligns with both environmental stewardship and operational efficiency.
